Crissea Grovenor Biography

My name is Crissea Grovenor, and my passion is horses.

For nine years I worked with thoroughbred racehorses using healing modalities to create a mind-body-spirit connection with each horse. Each horse was an active and equal partner with me free to express its feelings.

In 2008, my life took a new direction, after I read Carolyn Resnick’s book, Naked Liberty. Known for her original training methods, her understanding of natural herd behaviour and the remarkable connection that she shares with all horses, I felt an immediate affinity with her work.  In July that year, I travelled to Escondido, California, to attend her three-day one-on-one Dance with Horses Clinic.

My training continued with a Workshop with Mary Debono a Certified Feldenkrais Practitioner creator of the SENSE Method, an accessible way for people to enhance the movement, comfort and well-being of their horses, and companion animals while improving their own body awareness, flexibility and posture.

There were others on this path who inspired me:  Stormy May a horse trainer who gave up her career to travel the world in search of those who have moved to a new level of understanding of horses.  Path of the Horse: A documentary explores the future of horse-human relationships, as we evolve towards a partnership with, rather than domination of, our equine friends.

Early in 2010 I made a decision not to work with horses involved in Equestrian Sport.

I now have three ex racehorses of my own – Andre, Ransom and Rikki and I am developing a relationship with them based on play, fun and leadership.

My life continues to undergo subtle changes as I explore Liberty Connections and Equine Soma Moves with my horses.  Feldenkrais, Mary DeBono, Hanna Somatics and others have influenced my Somatic exploration. I am personally exploring Authentic Movement and Contact Improvisation classes.

Shortly I am going to Denmark to see the work of Klaus Ferdinand Hempfling in his Pure Practical Performance (Crisis Management, Abandoned Cases) where he transforms dangerous, nervous, traumatized horses into cooperative companions.

Then the wonderful news is that Nevzorov Haute Ecole will be holding workshops in November – December 2010.  Maurizio Patti the Official Nevzorov Haute Ecole Representative in Italy will be coming to Australia.
