WHAT IS EQUINE CRANIOSACRAL WORK

Equine Craniosacral work is a technique using exquisitely sensitive and exact finger pressure, visualization and vectored energy techniques.  It focuses on bringing balance throughout the skeletal and muscular systems with specific focus on the individual bones of the head, spine and sacrum.

Techniques are drawn from three principal traditions: osteopathy, energy work and Taoism.  A supremely gentle approach, this work is a way of “doing non-doing.”

THE CRANIOSACRAL SYSTEM

The CranioSacral system is made up of the bones of the skull (cranium) the tailbone (sacrum), spinal cord, dura mater (protective sleeve around the spinal cord) and cerebrospinal fluid.

The CranioSacral system has a discrete rhythm called the CRANIAL WAVE, which can be felt throughout the body.  Imbalances in the CranioSacral System can cause sensory, motor or neurological disabilities.

APPLICATION OF CRANIOSACRAL WORK

We use a light touch to palpate the Cranial Wave at key points on the horse’s body to sense and then release any restrictions and blockages in the musculoskeletal system and nervous system. We focus on individual bones of the skull, spine and sacrum, restoring postural balance and fluidity of biomechanics. CranioSacral work traditionally specializes on the skull, spine and sacrum but it is not limited to those areas and may be used on any part of the body

BENEFITS:

Equine CranioSacral work is effective in treating both acute and chronic injuries. It has been successful in the treatment of headshaking, low back and joint problems, poll and neck issues, SI joint problems, TMJ dysfunction, emotional and behavioral problems, head trauma and injury. Rescue and abused horses would in particular benefit from CranioSacral work.

“Unwinding’ is a technique in CranioSacral Work that assists the body in releasing restrictions from past traumas or injuries. Trauma is any event that has caused harm or injury to the body whether physically, emotionally or mentally. Until trauma is released from the body it will affect the psychophysical wellbeing of the horse.

Please note that Equine CranioSacral is not a replacement for traditional veterinarian care
